Docker is an open source project that automates the deployment of applications within software containers, providing an additional layer of abstraction and automation of virtualisation at the operating system level in Linux. Docker uses features of isolation of Linux kernel resources to allow that independent “containers” are executed within a single instance of Linux, avoiding the overhead of starting and maintaining virtual machines.
